Walking by Faith

Romans 8:14-16 - For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

Over the past few months as we have begun to progress through the adoption process and we are already learning what it means to walk by faith.  We believe that God has given us the spirit of adoption and we know that he already knows the entire plan to get our daughter home.  It is easy to look through rose colored glasses and think that having faith means that everything is going to line up with OUR plan, but we know by now our plan is not always God's plan.

Only a couple months after making the decision to pursue adoption through Haiti it was announced that Haiti intends to ratify with the Hague Convention.  While this is ultimately a good thing for the orphaned children in Haiti and is an effort to protect them, this brings uncertainty for those of us beginning the process.  Our agency cannot tell us at this point in time what this all means in terms of the timeline for getting a little girl home.  They cannot tell us if adoptions will be closed in Haiti for a period of time until the country gets compliant with the Hague Convention.  So here we sit with many unknowns and decisions to make.  Stay with a country that has a lot of question marks or transfer to a country with fewer question marks?

We are praying for guidance and peace in whatever choice we make.  We are leaning toward staying with Haiti in spite of the risk.  Our reasons for pursuing Haiti are unchanged and it seems that no matter what country we choose for the adoption there is going to be risk.  Until we have that precious child home there will be uncertainty...and even when she comes home there will be an element of the unknown.  So as we move forward with our decision we place it all in God's hands.  He tells us to come to him and he will give us rest when we are heavy laden (Matthew 11:28). So that is exactly what we will do...we will trust in His promises and know that all things work together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).  We will walk by faith which means we are walking without knowing what the outcome is, but we're trusting that God does!! :)
