Why now? Why not just enjoy life...

As our son enters his teen years and could be heading to high school by the time we finally get through the adoption process the question that may come to people's minds is, "Why would you want to start all over?  You are so close to being able to just live and enjoy life without having to worry about kid duties."  A couple weeks ago Pastor Roger stated it perfectly, as someone asked he and his wife, "When are you going to start living and enjoying life?".  He talked about doing what God has called us to do in our lives and in that we are living and there is joy beyond measure.

As we argued with Eli yesterday about eating what was in front of him on his plate...something I thought we would be far beyond at the age of 13, I looked at Shawn and said, "Just think we'll be doing this all over again within the next few years with our daughter."  Shawn joked with the reply of, "Do you want to just stop now and eat the money that we've already put into this."  The response for both of us was a resounding no.  The challenges that lie ahead are ones that we are willing to go through because this truly is what God has placed on our hearts.

The joy of watching a child grow to be their own person and share special moments with them along the way far outweighs the challenges and frustrations of parenting.  I may need reminding of this in thirteen years or so when we are dealing with female teenage hormones at the breakfast table, but I trust that God will continue to show me the joy through the challenges. :)
