Music has always had a powerful impact on my life. When I was a little girl my mom purchased 'Psalty the Songbook' tapes for my brother and I to listen to. I would listen to them over and over again in my room. Looking back today I honestly believe that these tapes are what introduced me to the gospel and where my walk with the Lord began. It is no surprise that to this day when I am feeling discouraged or anxious that I turn to music to lift my spirits.
I've shared in a previous blog that the song 'Kings and Queens', by Audio Adrenaline is a song that has given us encouragement through the adoption process. The song echos our desire to love the least of these and give a little girl from Haiti and opportunity to be our queen. As we are stagnant in this waiting period of the process the song that has poured truth into my heart is called 'Oceans', by Hillsong, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1m_sWJQm2fs
The lyrics of this song capture my heart and draw me closer to my strength, which is found when I focus my eyes not on myself or our situation, but on the One that brings us through our situation. Walking through the lyrics I can see our journey:
You call me out upon the waters (We were called by God to pursue adoption.)
The great unknown where feet may fail (This adoption process has so many unknowns and there are days when I question if we can get through it.)
And there I find You in the mystery (Then I remember that even when I don't know the outcome ahead, God does. What is mystery to me, is not to Him.)
In oceans deep (Using the analogy of the ocean to represent our adoption process, it feels like we are in the deepest part of the ocean, treading water, with no land in sight.)
My faith will stand (Despite the exhaustion, I will not stop believing that God is in control.)
I will call upon Your name (I will continue to call on Him to advocate on our behalf.)
And keep my eyes above the waves (When wading in the deep waters, fighting the waves, looking up is the best way to keep from getting doused with water.)
When oceans rise my soul will rest in Your embrace (Instead of fighting the rising waters and waves, I will rest in Him and find peace.)
For I am Yours and You are mine (I am His and I know that He will care for all of our needs.)
Your grace abounds in deepest waters (Even when I have those moments of despair and defeat, His grace washes over me and reminds me that He's got this.)
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide (He is in complete control and knows the beginning and the end.)
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now(At times I may grow weary and find discouragement, rather than encouragement, reading other adoption blogs and posts. It is in these times that I remember all the things that God have already brought me through. He has not failed me yet and I know that He will not start now.)
So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior (God has led us on a journey that we ourselves would never have thought we could take. And now we are trusting without borders that He will be with us along the way. We believe that our faith will grow through this process as we continue to draw closer to our Savior.)
I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine
Thankful for the gift of song and those that are using the talents that have been given to them to write beautiful songs of encouragement. Praying that each one that reads this blog may find comfort in these words, no matter what your "ocean" may be. May you tread with the strength and peace that can only be found in Christ Jesus. May you trust without borders and let Him lead you.
