We had a later start to our day today. Our driver needed to bring our family coordinator to a meeting and then to the airport. We had the opportunity to have breakfast with her before she headed out for the day. Since our agency is located in Virginia it has been a special blessing to have the opportunity to spend time chatting with her. We are so thankful for the work that she and the rest of the staff are doing to facilitate our adoption.
Shawn and I spent time outside at the hotel while we waited for it to be time to leave. I was soaking in the sounds of Haiti that I have heard mentioned by so many adoptive families that have made the trip before us. Even though we are close to the airport the hotel is in a spot that it is relatively peaceful. We don't hear the traffic going by and the hustle and bustle that is just a ways down the road from us. We could hear the birds chirping and the sound of roosters in the distance. On the patio around the pool area we saw some small lizards running around. It was nice to get rejuvenated before heading back to the orphanage. It has been a draining week full of emotions and overwhelming at times.
It was a very different ride today and much less stressful!! We made it within 30 minutes which is much more doable than an hour and a half! When we arrived we headed for T's room. She was ready to head upstairs as soon as we got there. We invited a couple of little friends to join us on the balcony. It is an important day for them, as they are each awaiting a letter to be written by tomorrow so that they can finally go home with their forever families! Please be praying that this letter will be submit by end of day tomorrow if it has not already!! It is well beyond time for these families to bring their sweet girls home! I am thankful that we had the opportunity to spend time with them as I have become so fond of their mamas over the past couple years!! It is amazing the bond that this process can build with people we may never actually have a chance to meet. Since our kiddos are from the same orphanage they will always be family in our hearts!
T seemed to be feeling better today. She didn't feel warm to me and seemed back to her playful self. The shirt I put her in today was perfect to describe her. It read, "Mommy's tiny diva". She certainly is tiny and she seems to be a mommy's girl right now. I have also seen a few glimpses of a diva inside. :) We may be in for it!
Any time T has to go potty, which is often with the water we keep giving her, she knows that I am the one that takes her. We have a sweet routine where she wants me to pick her up when she is done and we head back to the balcony. On our way out of the room off the bathroom, we look in the mirror together waving with one finger and then blow a kiss into the mirror. It started out with her just copying what I did and now it is expected that we'll do that every time.
One of the times on our way back to the balcony T was comfortably leaning up against me with her head on my shoulder. We looked out at the mountains in the distance and I took the quiet moment to sing to her just like I used to do with Eli. I know she doesn't understand the words, but she just continued to rest on me and seemed comfortable, so hopefully she enjoyed it. I thoroughly enjoyed the cuddle time!
In addition to our invited friends we had a balcony full of kids that found their way up to us. We must be magnetic because the French couple that is at the orphanage on their bonding trip never seem to have that many kids with them when we get there each day. Our bags must give us away. The kids know that usually bags mean fun and food. The kids colored and played with balloons and a beach ball. Shawn tried to tickle T while she was sitting on my lap. She seems feisty at times, she gives it right back. She played hard to get too while Shawn playfully tried to get her with the beach ball she hid behind and under the chair. I love hearing her call him Papa when she wants his attention and wants him to look at something. Not long before we left she was sitting on my lap and started putting stickers on herself then me and then Shawn. At some point she decided they were sticking better to my shirt, so she adorned me with all of the stickers. I felt quite loved. (Yes, Shawn and I wore our matching Eddies shirts in support of EL in their lacrosse game against Lewiston! Missing Eli, dearly!! )
